I'm Melanie- I have two Portuguese Water Dogs, and they are the reason that I am where I am today! Our eldest, Minion, was what one might call an 'easy' dog- no problems, she enjoyed training and sparked my first initial interests in dog training back in 2015.
We briefly had another dog, who is sadly no longer with us, who posed a few challenges but really tugged at my heartstrings.. and when she left there was definitely a dog shaped hole in my heart!
Fast forward to 2020, and timing meant that our planned puppy was born just 3 weeks prior to lock down, and his first few months of life were sheltered and different to what we might have wanted for him. At this time I started to take my dog training more seriously, and began studying. I have undertaken courses with many different organisations, including the IMDT , Victoria Stilwell, OCN Level 2 in Canine care and welfare, Absolute Dogs PDT to Genius level, School of Canine Science scent 4 six, School of Canine Science Puppy Lab, Kids around Dogs and Canine Hoopers UK.
I am currently undertaking a three year behaviour course with the School of Canine Science.
I've also had to work alot with Rumple, our youngest PWD, as he has some diffculties around other dogs and some humans- so he likes to keep me on my toes! This means that I UNDERSTAND what it is to have a dog with issues- and how to empathise with clients while working to resolve issues.
During this time I have also been lucky enough to work alongside some fantastic local dog trainers, shadowing and learning and getting experience and eventually began teaching classes and taking on training clients myself for a large, local dog training school - Watercombe Dogs.
I now take on clients through Watercombe Dogs- but also independently as Fynes Canines in Dorset.
Based near Dorchester and Sherborne.
I teach regular Hoopers classes, Lead walking classes, Rally classes and offer 121s for training and behavioural issues.
I used science based, positive reinforcement methods - if you wish to see any of my qualifications at any point please do ask! Also, be reassured that if you come with an issue that I feel another trainer is more fitting for- then I will speak to you about this to make sure that you are getting the best help for your dog!
